Downtown Container Park
E
~0.2km
City
Nevada Las Vegas 89101
Downtown Container Park is an exciting sustainable shopping attraction in downtown Las Vegas -- the hub for an assortment of small boutiques, galleries, bars, eateries and outdoor spaces as well as entertainment and education programming. Situated on the southeast corner of Fremont and Seventh streets, Downtown Container Park spans approximately 19,000 square feet with a mix of 30 shipping containers and 41 multifunctional modular cubes forming its perimeter. Each cube is a steel-framed structure that measures 250 square feet and can easily form a variety of portable configurations. If Downtown Container Park were ever dismantled, the cubes could be used for other things – such as a construction office or concession stand – and would never wind up in a landfill. The sign that stretches above the front entrance is made out of a gray and orange shipping container, and also functions as a bridge -- guests can walk through and view all the action on Fremont Street from large window-like cutouts of the letters that spell “C-O-N-T-A-I-N-E-R P-A-R-K.” Even the three-story elevator boasts a shaft that has been fashioned from a shipping container. Marking the entrance of Downtown Container Park is a 55-foot-tall steel praying mantis sculpture built atop a dump truck. Kirk Jellum and Kristen Ulmer made this mobile art piece for Burning Man, an annual art and self-expression festival held in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. On special occasions, you’ll be able to see “The Mantis” in its full glory – shooting flames from its antennae. Next to the sculpture sits a more mysterious endeavor called the Catalyst Dome. This igloo-esque structure is lit and changes colors at night. The west side of Downtown Container Park is filled with small galleries while the east side focuses on fashion and accessories. Dining and drinking outlets are peppered throughout the premises. At the center of the development is a playground and interactive zone designed for children. A shipping container has been converted into a 30-foot-tall treehouse with three different enticing slides. Kids can also play with the NEOS Playworld System, an electronic game that encourages them to race around while hitting flashing lights. Along with shopping, art and food and beverage offerings, there’s even more in store at Downtown Container Park. Real train tracks have been laid for a boxcar and a caboose with monkeys on it. A huge outdoor stage with a canopy, an audiovisual tower and an expanse of natural green grass for seating is positioned in front of the tracks. The Downtown Container Park comes from the Downtown Project, a community revitalization group funded by Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh.

California San Francisco 94108
The Cable Car Museum is a free museum in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Located at 1201 Mason Street, it contains historical and explanatory exhibits on the San Francisco cable car system, which can itself be regarded as a working museum.[1] The museum contains several examples of old cable cars, together with smaller exhibits and a gift shop. The cable cars displayed include:[2] Sutter Street Railway - grip car 46 and trailer 54 dating from the 1870s Clay Street Hill Railroad - grip car 8, the only surviving car from the first cable car company The museum is part of the complex that also houses the cable car power house, which drives the cables, and the car depot ("barn"). The car depot is not open to the public, but two overlook galleries allow the visitor to view the power house, and to descend below the junction of Washington and Mason streets in order to view the large cavern where the haulage cables are routed via large sheaves out to the street.[2] The museum was established in 1974, and is run by the Friends of the Cable Car Museum. It is entered from an entrance at Washington and Mason and is open from 10 AM to 6 PM between April 1 and September 30 and from 10 AM to 5 PM between October 1 and March 31, apart from some public holidays.[1][2] The museum main level is wheelchair accessible via a separate entrance. The admission to the museum is free.
